Artist talk with Elif Saydam
PART II
Due to illness the artist talk unfortunately has to be cancelled.
On the second part of this event on January 28, Elif Saydam and Can Mileva Rastovic will talk about the artist perception and own artistic narrative of nature in the context of ENTER_NATURE.
Elif Saydam moves with their painting precisely, poetically, challenging and with a resistant sense of humor at the same time along aesthetic and social borderlines of our time. The fields of tension that Saydam explores encompass painting traditions outside of the European canon and across disparate cultures, in search of aesthetic categories beyond them. This exploration incorporates the transgressive potential of decorative traditions from their Turkish background, medieval painting traditions, or contemporary pop-culture from urban life.
Saydam pays attention to how our social hierarchies and perceptions, and the anxieties that result from them, can be transformed through surprisingly creative means through a clash of materials and references in their expanded painting practice which mirrors the complexity of the world we are living in.
Elif Saydam (b. 1985) studied painting at the Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main and lives and works in Berlin. Most recent solo exhibitions include F*rgiveness at Tanya Leighton, Berlin and Cleaning up the Neighborhood at All Stars, Lausanne.
