Bundle Dye Workshop
with KÊMI Atelier
KÊMI Atelier invites families and adults to dye fabrics with local plants.
In reference to the artwork by Lungiswa Gqunta in the exhibition Soil Conversations, which highlights colonial structures and the issues surrounding the distribution of tropical plants in Europe, participants will explore of local plants and nature in Körnerpark. Participants will learn about and collect various local dye plants. The ancient and almost forgotten secrets of textile dyeing with plant elements will be explained, and the bright colors of summer will be transferred to a linen cloth with local plants using the “bundle dye” technique.
Using flowers, leaves and berries for contact dyeing is fun, easy and intuitive. KÊMI Atelier guides participants through all the steps of the “bundle dye” technique: preparing the fabrics, wrapping the bundles and steaming in bamboo steam cookers. In the end, all participants will go home with their own dyed linen cloth in unique colors and patterns and with a small booklet with instructions on how to dye it themselves.
All materials will be provided. The workshop is free of charge.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 20 each from 10 am to 1:30 pm.
Both dates are already fully booked. You can still join our waiting list at: birgit.binder@bezirksamt-neukoelln.de
