Performance "The Lips the Teeth the Tip of the Tongue"
mit Paulette Penje und Olga Hohmann
In The Roof of the Mouth, Paulette Penje combines body, space, and temporality in a multi-layered manner.
Penje transfers the pinkish color of her palate to the insides of the eight vaulted arches of the Galerie im Körnerpark. The architecture becomes an open mouth. For Penje, space not only has an architectural dimension, but is created by the events that take place within it—temporal, alive, almost human-like. The installation is animated during the exhibition through a performance by Olga Hohmann and Paulette Penje.
Olga Hohmann writes essays, prose miniatures, and meandering texts that are intended to be read aloud. In an almost musical form, she combines more or less fictional narratives with found material, blurring the distinction between the self and the other, between inside and outside.
In multi-faceted performances in indoor and public (outdoor) spaces, Penje works with methods from painting, action art, and dance. Humor, melancholy, misappropriation, imagination, and her own body are her materials. Penje’s works play with rules, loops, and an ambivalent presence between action and state.
