MATERNAL FANTASIES' First Supper Series

As part of the preparation for the exhibition On the Situation of Women in Family and Society (17.10.-24.02.2026), a participatory workshop with Magdalena Kallenberger and Hanne Klaas from MATERNAL FANTASIES takes place. In this workshop, they invite participants – gladly also with their children – to develop and perform their own version of MATERNAL FANTASIES First Supper (2023) together.

The idea is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting The Last Supper (ca. 1495–1497). Together a new image is created: a living group of people with different backgrounds, their children and fantastical beings. It is about life, togetherness and the connection between different generations.
All participants can also “bring” a person who is important to them. This person can come from the past, present or future and can be real or fictional.

Participants should bring:

• a short story or anecdote about this person

• an object that reminds you of this person

The object can later become part of the shared “supper”.

At the end of the workshop, a shared tableau vivant performance is created – i.e., a living, jointly created image. The performance will be photographed and video recorded. The recordings will become part of the ongoing photographic and video work by MATERNAL FANTASIES and will be shown in the exhibition “On the Situation of Women in Family and Society” at the Gallery in Körnerpark from 17.10.2026 onwards.

Notes on the Workshop

Participants are asked to wear or bring colorful, solid-colored clothing without visible brands or logos. Additionally, food can be brought along: a dish, salad, cake or other items that can be eaten together at the “supper”.

Participants: 12–15 people, plus children. Friends, neighbors, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, mothers and fathers – everyone, with or without children, is welcome.

The workshop takes place in German. Registration by 15.09.2026 at galerien@bezirksamt-neukoelln.de is requested. By participating in the workshop, participants agree to being photographed and filmed.
