Conversation "On the visibility of women artists"

The 1973 environment “On the Situation of Women in Family and Society,” which serves as the starting point for the current works of a younger generation of female artists in the exhibition of the same name, has yet to be found in any art-preserving institution, even 53 years after its creation. This collective artistic work, created in Berlin in the 1970s, is therefore not visible within the context of contemporary art since 1945. The discussion will explore why such a socio-politically explosive feminist environment—one that, in terms of its artistic quality, could hold its own alongside now-established positions in feminist art—is not anchored in any institution and therefore cannot be seen. Possible causes and reasons that may have led to this situation, such as the dynamics of the art market, will be examined and discussed.
